Well the stores in my area only received 5 8900's per store...so I had to work all day and of course there were none left when I came in at 5. I came home and called customer service and ordered it over the phone...should be here by Tuesday...

I have never switched from a blackberry to a blackberry, I assume all I really need to do is swap out my sim card and everything will transfer to the new 8900 from my old pearl, is this accurate?

Use the Switch Device Wizard in Desktop Manager. It will copy all of your data, settings, and third party apps from your old device to your new one.

No sir, you will need to run the device switch wizard to get apps and data transferred in addition to the SIM swap.

This will work even though they are different models?

Its very easy to do. Before I even did the switch device wizard, I updated the OS which can be done even without the sim card installed.

unless you have todomatrix or idea matrix, you will need to freshly install those on your new device... i dont know why but it has something to do with the PINs of the device... you will not be able to recover your data if you use the device switch wizard for todomatrix or idea matrix... i hope that made sense

Its super simple, I did it inside the t-mobile store today. Bought the 8320 on Friday and went back to get the 8900 today. Didn't want to transfer all the info again its a pain !!!

I did the device switching from my 8100 Pearl to my 8900 with no issues using the wizard

I also had an 8100. I did my contacts/calendar/memo no problem. Can I restore backup to get my ringtones/contact photos too? Of course my old memory card will be replaced because I want a bigger one.

You will need to update the PIN on your account when you receive the new device. You can probably do it by calling customer care but I always do it on-line in MyTmobile. Swapping the SIM will not take care of this. Once the PIN is activated, then your new phone will receive the service books.

When I put my SIM into my 8900 the phone asked me if I wanted to change to that (new) PIN. All the email addresses and My Faves showed up pretty fast.

Interesting. I always thought you had to do it on-line. I don't remember if I put the SIM in the phone before I changed it or not.

On my wife's Curve I put her SIM in and had to go to Setup Internet Email and it asked to switch PINs then. I did zero.

Should I leave the sim in the old 8100 or put it in the new 8900 before using "switch device"?

Be wary of using the Switch Device Wizard. Like many, I've had nothing but issues with it; it just about broke my 8120 when migrating from the 8100, and it rendered the 8900 all but unusable as well until I did Wipe Handheld and started over again. You may wish to instead consider transferring only select databases. Whatever the Wizard does seems to make the new device run slow as molasses (or not at all).
