Default Oh lord, I'm a newb. Help lol

Ok, I'm getting my very first blackberry (storm for that matter) prob friday and I know very little about them. I've used my friends a little bit but I'm mainly curious about these updates you guys are talking about here on the forums. I am aware of beta's and all that but need some info on what update I should try out for my OS. It's going to have .75 on it but I'm reading others have fixed some bugs with the 100's?

If so, which do I download that would be stable and how do I go about doing so? Sorry for the stupid questions. Be gentle

I've used my friends for a little while. I always steal it from him whenever I see him lol. Reason I ask is I LOVE tinkering with stuff like this, even if I break it. I have noticed some issues on his and his is running .75. Thats what mine is going to be on so if there was a way I could at least get to .99 I'd like to know where to get it and then the .103 Thanks for the response.

I waited a month or so to update straight to leaked .99. Then when .103 leaked out I did it right away. I would read up on how to do this in the different forums. At the time I followed the CB site carefully. Good luck. Send me a message if you want more info. Joe

ElusiveAura,

no question is stupid. There worst thing that will happen is you might be directed to one of the other discussion threads - such as the "Beta You Than Me".

In your case I will make this suggestion. Get familiar with your phone for a couple weeks running OS .75. Tweak all your settings (keyboard, security, etc) and organize your application folders. OS .75 has some annoying quirks but it is still very functional.

Once you are familiar with your phone operation, I suggest you load the most popular beta. Right now its .103. There is a .106 lurking but I am a little leary of it.

I suffered through .65 and then had the official .75 upgrade pushed wirelessly to my Verizon phone. After about 6 weeks a VZW tech loaded .99 on my phone and it ended a plethora of irksome .75 quirks. I later figured out out to use the DM to load .103 onto my phone - a couple of quirks ended with that but I also had to research and figure out a couple of fixes for issues incurred during the app loading. Nothing too difficult.

Do yourself a favor and get familiar with the phone first. Learn how to navigate the functions and tweak your keyboard settings. Don't rush into the beta world right away. It's better to encounter the quirks and eventually see how the betas gradually address them incrementally. Use this forum as your guide and ask questions no matter how ridiculous they may sound.

Overall, you will love your Storm experience if you are willing to learn as you go.

That said, if you get the 'itch', scratch it by going over the "Beta You Than Me' forum and take the plunge. I hesitated going from .75 to the next leaked version and the one after that and so on.
But! in hindsight... I wish I had done it sooner so I wouldn't have had to deal with the large number of quirks... that I actually didn't know were quirks... until I updated. Uh... does that make ANY sense at all???

I guess what I am saying is every user seems to have their own unique experiences with each OS. Find your way and have fun with it. You said you love tinkering... so read through the mountain of 9530 forum/threads...learn... and then GO FOR IT!
Come on... you KNOW you want to....
Just my two cents. (And remember to do a routine backup! I do one every 3 days)
