Default Contacts not Synchronizing from BES to Device

Please Login to Remove!

Just an FYI to anyone else that may have this problem:

Environment: Exchange Server 2007 SP1, BES 4.1.6.15; Windows Server 2003 SP2

ALL of my users stopped getting newly added Contacts synched up from Outlook to their devices; however, the synch was working from their devices to Outlook/Exchange. Calendar, Tasks, Email, and all other folders synch'd correctly in both directions.

After numerous device wipes/reloads, service book deletes/resends/etc, this was simply traced to a recent Microsoft Update, specifically Security Advisory 960715 (Update Rollup for ActiveX Kill Bits, most specifically addressing "Research in Motion (RIM) AxLoader" ActiveX control... what a Kill Bit or AxLoader are I have no clue...).

See support.microsoft.com/?kbid=960715 "Microsoft Security Advisory: Update Rollup for ActiveX Kill Bits" for more information.

I simply uninstalled "Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB60715)" from my BES server and amazingly all "new" contacts began synchronizing back to the devices.

Something must have gone awry during the initial update, because I've subsequently re-installed that Update and so far, the synchronizing is still working bi-directionally.

What was most unusual about this, though, is that after a device "wipe" and reload, all "old" contacts would synchronize up to the device. Contacts added subsequent to the Security Update would simply "stay" in Outlook/Exchange, but would NOT transfer to my handhelds.

Interesting, thanks for that dkpruett.
Saw something similar last week, but deleting and resending service books seemed to help, allthough I might go check the device again.
