Default Warranty for Unbrand Bold

Please Login to Remove!

I am thinking about buying a Blackberry that is unbranded. However, I am worried about the unit's warranty. Who will I go through?

Will I go through AT&T or will I send it to Blackberry directly if I have a problem? I understand that AT&T has a 1 year warranty. Does this stand for unbranded units also?

Thanks!

AT&T will only warranty units they sold. If yours is unbranded, you have the manufacturer's warranty from RIM (1 year?) and will have to deal with them directly. When you start your Bold is there a splash screen?

And most likely you will have great difficulty seeking warranty from RIM, since most of that is handled through the carriers. I know RIM will do repair work, but most often that is for a charge.

I didn't say impossible, I said difficult. If this is your worry, stay away from an unbranded device.

No, only a blue Balckberry logo. So I guess I deal with Blackberry in this case?

I had a BB unlocked (never branded) and it was a brand new unit, and it was faulty (an 8310) and it was right when it came out, no way it went over 1 year, and they were total jerks saying that if I'm with a phone company (VF) I'd have to have it go through them. VF says since that it's not their phone, they wont service it. BB Only deals (at least here in Spain) with the phone companies, and not the individuales unless you pay for their tech support. Jerks :(

In theory this is true. In practice, you need to stress to them that you purchased directly from them and not the carrier that your device is on now. But this is not always easy... and as was said before, a very good reason to stay away from unbranded devices.
