Default Area Code Issue

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

Whenever I try to dial a number using voice dailing or directly from my contact list, the phone always dials the 1(242) area code. In my country this is not necessary, it actually stops the call from going through.

I looked under Smart Dailing but I couldn't find the answer. I also did a search in this forum and found nothing.

Can I disable this function?

Any help would be appreciated.

muddasick,

I did a little internet research and I think this is a smart dialing issue. My Storm does not have a "Smart dialing" listing under Options or Advanced Options. This may be because I have a Verizon branded phone running on an American Network.

According to my research, you phone is dialing 1(242) automatically because it has been configured to do so under your Smart Dialing settings. I will attach a link to an article I found on the internet regarding this matter. Seems to me all you would have to do is disable this setting under Smart Dialing. Use the article to trouble shoot this issue.

Smart Dialing Configuration | BlackBerry Cool

Let me know if it works.

Smart Dialing options are under the phone options menu. Press the green Send button. Then press the menu button and select Options. Smart Dialing options are there.

I think I fixed it. I changed the "National Number Length" to 7 instead of 10. Now it dials the numbers minus the area code.

Still tries to dial area code when trying to do auto voicemail dailing, but i can live with this.
