Default Overseas Usage? Help?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi. My girlfriend and I both have a blackberry curve. She's going to Paris for spring break. Will her phone be completely useless over there? There are no roaming charges if we use BB messenger, but will that even work for us?

Please let me know.

She can still use the phone in Paris but it depends if she wants to stay with Tmobile (more expensive cause it's overseas) or get a local pre-paid in Paris, if available.

Actually, even with BB Messenger, she may get international roaming charges for data since it uses data.

She has Sprint. I called today to ask them about it. I was told that Sprint doesn't charge roaming for data. SO BB messenger would be free from Paris to Texas. I called again to double check, THIS TIME I was told that her phone would be useless in Paris? Now I'm confused. I don't know if her phone will work there or not. Hmm... :/

It seems awfully generous of Sprint not to charge for international roaming. I hope they didn't misinterpret your question and consider it roaming within the US and not international roaming.

If the phone has a SIM card and is unlocked you should be able to use it abroad. But if you stick with the home plan, you might be charged an arm and a leg.

(I had a friend who visited me in the Caribbean when he first got his Pearl with Tmob. He continued browsing and using his phone for all data related stuff but no voice. He got a fat surprise when he got home in the form of a $500 bill for all the data. He's otherwise on BIS which is unlimited, within the US).

I told the lady that she will be in Paris. She said that we could communicate through BB messenger for free. I didn't believe it either, but she told me that she is 100% sure that there is no extra charge for data. I think they started this a year or so ago? Not sure. I'm going to go to a Sprint store to get it on paper, because I would feel horrible if she got slammed with roaming fees.

So you're saying that the phone WILL work over there? The question is just whether or not she'll be charged extra?

Thank you for your help, by the way. :]

Does she have an 8330 Curve? If so, it might not work in France. Sprint is a CDMA network, but most of Europe uses GSM.

For it to work, there has to be a CDMA roaming partner in France, or the phone has to be GSM compatible. I'm not sure either one of those is true.
