Okay, so I like to be able to:

- have a common shared calendar among 5 or more people using BB.
- share files among them too to and from the device/computer (or server?).

Problem is I have BES running on these 5 users, I was searching for any functionality of BES to do the above but I cant seem to find what Im looking for..

so I found BB Unite, question is , can BB Unite run over BES installation or BB Unite is supposed to be a trimmed down BES?

Im confused...

It is a trimmed down BES, but you can have both BES and Unite activation on a single Blackberry. You may have to run Unite on a separate machine from your BES. I know of at least one office that is doing this with the BES and Unite on the same LAN and some users on both.

i see, thanks! but isn't there a way for my BES users to share files to each other even if i dont install UNITE? or is it only UNITE that gives the file sharing functionality..

PS:

How does file sharing in UNITE work anyway, I just saw the presentation from the BB website but it's quite vague and doesnt explain much (and show much)

The download manager creates directories for each user on the PC and on the Blackberry. Files that get placed in those directories on one get transferred to the matching directory on the other. You can also browse a limited portion of the PC C drive (from the Blackberry) looking for files to download. Files larger than some limit (around 1MB I think) will only be downloaded when serial bypass (USB, WiFi or thanks to Grimlin Bluetooth) connection to the PC is active.

The one huge problem with Unite is there isn't much information about what it can do, and how it works, and getting the thing off Blackberries is can be non-trivial, it can make enemies quickly.

I have to wonder why they didn't move the Download manager over to the BES as well. I don't really use it, but I can see where people would. But the thought of it probably has large IT department heads quaking in their boots.
