Unhappy 8120 tethering issues - Help!

Please Login to Remove!

I have successfully tethered my old 8100 and my new(er) 8120 to my Dell lappie over the past year or so. I have never had an issue with teh device or the configuration/setup etc. of the computer. Recently I have moved and no loger have access to a wireless i-net connection, so I wanted to go back to using my BB for the time being. Now the issue that I am having is that I can connect the BB 8120 as a modem with no issues at all. When I connect I get the little message in the task bar that says that the modem is connected at 115.2kbs etc… however when I open Firefox or IE or any other internet based app they won’t connect and the connection does not send or receive any data. The amount of data sent and received hangs at about 200-300 kbs up or down once the BB establishes a connection. I have peergurdian and Zonealarm installed, which I did not have install when I first used the BB as a modem. I am not sure if either of them are causing this issue. Now keep in mind that I do not get any errors while the BB is connecting, the send/receive arrows flash as the BB is connecting, a connection is established, and then nothing….. I’m stumped. I’m looking for a work around where I don’t have to setup a new connection, but maybe that is what I need to do. Also keep in mind that the connection I am trying to connect through has worked in the past with no issues and I have not changed any of the settings either. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried disabling the zonealarm for testing purposes? sounds like a firewall issue to me which zonealarm is so try disabling it or setting a preference or something like that. also, run ipconfig /all and make sure you have a good IP address/DNS settings. how are you connecting the device to the computer? cable, or bluetooth......?
