Default Blackberry Messanger user scrambling?

Please Login to Remove!

What's up guys?

Have had a Blackberry Bold for a month now, but I've exchanged it twice because of caller ID issues and BBM issues. I THINK I may have just found the issue that was going on with my Caller ID (http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...en-locked.html), but I had this consistent Blackberry Messenger issue that keeps coming up:

You know how the default arrangement of the contacts is in alphabetical order? Well I'll have mine be that way initially, but then randomly scramble into a different order. I can solve this by making a backup of my messenger file in Backup & Restore > Advanced, but the issue keeps coming up, and it pisses me off. Anyone know how to fix it? I just exchanged my Berry for a new one today, so I'm holding off on installing too much other stuff before I solve this.

so you keep exchanging your phone just because your BB contacts are not alphabetical ?

No...I exchanged my phone because the caller ID wasn't working properly (something I now see may have been the issue highlighted in the link I put above), because the BBM was messing up, because of reception issues in various areas, and a couple other issues. I've spoken with RIM tech support and AT&T tech support TONS over the past couple weeks, so it's not like this was for nothing. They told me to go exchange it - I wanted to keep it, but after so many software reloads and the issues continuously coming back up, they recommended I just get another one. I'm a Blackberry head, so I have some idea of what I'm talking about

Are these contacts people you have open conversations with?

Or are the contacts that are NOT in a conversation also un-sorting?

How many "groups" of contacts do you have? Or are they all in the default "contacts" container?

They're all saved in the default contacts group. And I'm not exactly sure as to whether all of them that unsort are unscrambling. Sometimes you'll see a couple of C's and D's in a row or something, but there hasn't seemed to be any real pattern as far as when or why they disorganize

Sorry to labour a point, but do you have conversations open with these contacts?

I know it seems basic and I am not trying to patronise, but if you are looking at a list of contacts under a "Conversations" section then these often sort (by default) by last update to chat, NOT name. I just want to be clear this issue is not implicated.

It's all good.

I would occasionally have conversations open, but not all the time. It'd normally just sort of be a matter of me not having updated something for a period of time before it starts doing it again. The contacts under the conversations section were fine - it'd be the contacts under "Contacts" that would scramble.

Does that answer your question?

When talking with tech support, we'd make sure it was the latest version they offer. I didn't look for any other software versions on the forums or anything

At the moment, I'm running 4.6.0.167 - same as I was running before, I believe. And I'm using a new Berry now; the issue hasn't come up YET, I just got my exchange today. But I wanted to avoid the issue in the future if possible. I didn't transfer any of the old berry information aside from the Blackberry Messenger contacts this time around, as to minimize any other data from the last berry that may possibly mess this one up. I transferred my other info via Outlook

Can you post a screenshot? If you have jl_cmdr installed, please post an image here of your contacts screen in BBM.
It would help me to see what has happened.

I got pissed and just reorganized em - I made a backup file of the messenger contacts, and just reloaded it onto the Berry. That normally works temporarily, but it ends up messing up again later. But essentially, it'll just reorganize the contacts in a random order.

You have 251 posts and don't know what jl_cmder is? It's a BBF favourite!

When you swapped from your first Bold to the new one, did you manually re-enter the BBM contacts? Or did you restore them from backup?

I restored the contacts from my backup, but nothing else was from the blackberry file aside from the searches (for the shortcuts in the messages application, like SHIFT + I for "incoming," SHIFT + O for "outgoing", etc.
