I used to have this issue with my Bold. Once I upgraded the the os to the lastest at the time, the problem went and I can have a battery with standard data/voice usage last me the day with 1 bar remaining on most days.

If you already have the lastest os for your device, you might want to look into which applications you have running as one of those apps are very data intense and its constantly transmitting data and that's draining your battery.

Are you running processes in the background? Hold the BB key and see whats running then click on them and scroll down to close.
Rember hitting the back button or the red hangup button only exits anapplication and does not close it. It continues to run in the background and sucks battery life. Turning your phone off will not shut down the process either.

Use close. Also a battery pull every once in a while to release memory

Go to the Storm section of this forum and download the update for your device from there. You will also get instructions from there on how to upgrade your device. Make sure you follow them carefully.

Mine always had this problem.
I also bought a new battery to keep with me as a backup.
Have just upgraded the OS and all I could do to save the charge was to turn off its GPS.

Mine used to drain fast...then I turned off the GPS, and now it lasts me the entire day.

Default Battery on New Storm

A lot has been written about poor battery life on new Storms. Please be patient and allow your Storm to receive at least 3-4 12 hour charges before you should see tremendous life improvement. I was like you and wanted to return my Storm the day after I bought it. But now it gets great life and I don't worry anymore.

Really? The battery lasts longer after a few charges/discharges?

Dude it doesn't matter if you recharge them for 12 hours in a row. These batteries are Li-ion batteries. Those were nickel batteries. Welcome to the 21st century!

Maybe you should change your settings and you should then see much improvement with your battery consumption. I can get through 1.5 days on one charge. Especially while at home. At work I do have to use my phone a lot so the battery doesn't last as long but just think of the settings and go from there.

Thats like how long is a piece of string. What settings?

Maybe he could use it less too?

Without concrete suggestions saying "change your settings" is not helpful in any way whatsoever.

C'mon ... it is not rocket science. Backlight timer, brightness is the simplist changes that you can make with much clarifaction. If I am directly speaking in terms of battery consumptions, there could be no way I could speaking of browser settings or the sound settings.

You don't think sound settings alter battery life? Really?

My point is that if you think its so easy that someone doesnt need to be told which settings then how come they are asking in the first place?

Well, the only way the sound setting would alter the battery consumption is it you have is on the silent setting. I highly doubt most people would keep it on silent day in and day out. There are some out there so I am not talking about those who do.

How is your signal strength? A very weak signal will kill the batter in a couple of hours, even if not being used. No fix for that except turn it off when in a weak or no signal area.

Here's my take on the Storm battery life issue. I've had a horrible experience. I was getting about 18 hours per charge. Not sufficient.

Coming from the Curve, where I can get 48hours of heavy usage from one charge (about 200 texts or emails, constant use of yahoo and BB chat, browser, and playing music), from an end-user experience/customer standpoint, why would I want to curtail my usual usage habits for a Storm?

I have done the "obvious" change of settings (that jdmevo8 hinted at) long ago, and did not change things much. I set the screen brightness to 10% and the backlight timout to 10 seconds. But when I'm just asleep with the phone on overnight seeing the phone go from 50% charge to 20% (when I'm clearly not using the phone) there is definitely something wrong.

Just charge it more often? On the weekends, I'm always on the go and I rarely get to stand still from 10am til sometimes 3am. I can't start trying to factor in when I will need an hour to stop everything to charge this phone. That's a ridiculous idea.

Change my usage pattern? I like the Storm, but not that much. No, I say BB has to fix the HW so that battery life isn't an issue. Let's not be in denial that there is a real problem here with battery life.
