Welcome!

I don't know of an antivirus programs for the BB, or any smartphone for that matter. Has not been a need for one so far, so I wouldn't worry about that until we hear of a virus targeting BBs.

As for map applications, check the GPS & Mapping section. There is a sticky at the top with reviews of most of the applications, at least the ones members have heard of and tried. As for a better one, it really depends upon how you wish to use it.

I don't know if this is closed thread so I am answering one part of this.
I am a new BB user (Pearl) as well, and also wondered if there was an antivirus software. My search so far has found 1:
SMobile Systems Total Mobile Security (As unchatty newby I'm unable to link yet so just go to smobilesystems and find their anti-theft software button.)
According to their site it is supposedly developed particular to the Pearl and, in addition to their antitheft features also contains antivirus software (for the 130, at that time of the marketing blurb, viruses particular to these devices). I dont know if that is total marketing scare-tactics (you know, the same kind that frightens you into getting home security by showing some miscreant trying to breach your home whilst your wife is reading your sweet little daughter to sleep in her room while you're away on biz or maybe visiting your girlfriend), but antivirus/antitrojan software is a concern since I find myself visiting more sites using the BB's browser.
By the way, SMobile's software doesn't seem to have a trial so you have to take a chance and fork over 19.99 annually (as of this date) sight unseen.
I haven't taken the dive yet until I do further research on this.
When I first received my device I purchased a different anti-theft software but I would gladly (I think) use one that offered an antivirus application if I can find reviews on it whether it does what it says.

You'll need to qualify what you mean any time you ask a "which is best?" or "which is better question?". That said, check out the All Known GPS Apps in the GPS forum and try some out -- especially if you're only considering free ones anyway. You can read suggestions all day long and have no idea if a GPS app is suited to your needs or not.

Personally, I wouldn't consider Google Maps as a suitable in-car nav app. It's lacking voice prompts and can't even automatically progress to the next instruction.

You'll definitely know if a thread is closed. You can't reply to a closed thread.

Antivirus software may be hard to find as, to date, there are no viruses written for the BlackBerry (yet).

Of course spyware (and Kisses) are another story.
