Default Can you use a prepaid SIM card while traveling?

Please Login to Remove!

My friend was traveling and he bought prepaid SIM cards and used them in his BOLD. Can that be done with the Storm? I see where the SIM card is but I do not think you can pull it out, am I wrong? Thanks!

Wirelessly posted

When I was in syria last year I had my unlocked 8300 and used a prepaid sim card. Worked perfect . You should have no problem. With your bold or storm being that they are world phones . Just make sure your phones are really unlocked.

You should not have any problem at all as long as the unit is already unlocked. I just came back from Taiwan, Singapore and Indonesia and used 3 different type of prepaid SIM card.

You will be able to use voice and SMS texting, but BlackBerry data will not be available.

Yes you can use prepaid SIM while traveling with the Storm. All you have to do is give Verizon a call and they will unlock the Storm for you with no charge. The SIM card is removable, it is a little hard to remove it the first time but it will come out. My dad just traveled to Albania and took his Storm with him and has been using a prepaid SIM to call us. NJBlackBerry is correct BlackBerry data is not available.

That's not completely true. BlackBerry data is available if the carrier you have a SIM card for has a prepaid BlackBerry data plan and it is enabled on your account.

The only carrier that I am aware of with this offering though is Vodacom South Africa.

is there a real reason for this and by saying this at risk of sounding like an ass... Isnt the storm a WORLD PHONE meaning your verizon sim should work all over the world. Verizon had the comericial out for the storm a guy surfing in Italy and calling someone from somewhere else or something of the sort is that all Bull like most advertisements or is it true.

Roaming charges can be excessive; many people like to use a prepaid local SIM card so they don't have to pay the roaming charges.
