Desktop manager not recognizing Tour
Please Login to Remove!
title says it all, no clue what to do...
could it be usb drivers for the tour that cause the problem?
every time I plug the tour into the usb, says it recognized it with problems and it may not work properly. WTF am I supposed to do now?

WTF version of Desktop Manager are you running?
That would help in determining WTF is wrong.
Sigh.

Did you install the device driver software as well?
DM will not recognize the Tour (or any other BlackBerry device) without the appropriate Device software package installed in addition to DM.

You have to install 5.0 that comes with the unit. I had the same problem.

Did you try using the DM that came with it? Chances are that one will work.

1. Uninstall any previous versions of Desktop Manager (before 4.7)
2. Verify the BlackBerry is not connected
3. Install 4.7 DTM from the disc or web
4. After installation, launch DTM
5. Connect the BlackBerry
Let me know if this does not work.

I had DM 5.0 already installed and so no probelms here.
I would agree that is the most likely problem.

Wirelessly posted
Thanks for all the replies. I needed to install DM 5.0. That solved my problems.

I'm having the same issue, however installing DTM 5.0 from the CD did not solve my issue. DTM nor Windows will recognize my BB Tour. I've attempted to Uninstall "BlackBerry" and "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus" and rebooting and still when I plug in my BB Tour Windows will attempt to install drivers and fail (XP).
Any other suggestions? I've also tried the steps above, uninstalling, re-installing, plugging in BB and still get the same results.
Thanks

If you can't get DM 5.0 to install, download and install DM 4.7.

You need to install the DM from the disc that came with your Tour.
Should be version 5.0.0.8

If you are using Windows 7 you may need to go to windows update while the phone is connected. There is a new BB driver available when you do but agiain it must be connected for windows to see it. Just a thought.

I installed DM 5 on one system and it wouldn't recognize the Tour. I simply reinstalled using the repair option on the reinstall and now its fine.

I used my existing DM 4.7.0.32 on XP and had no problems at all with my 9630.

Have used 4.7 and 5.0 - no joy
Got the Tour, installed from the CD (5.0). Device is recognized, but I cannot get my calendar or notes off my 8830 using the DM.
1 - Switch Device Wizard fails with: "Current Notification settings cannot be transferred". Further on it says "Application data could not be restored to the device"
2 - Trying to restore my old data using DM backup and restore it says "There was a communication error between the device and desktop manager"
3 - If I try to use the synch function on DM, it fails with "failed to connect to the device. be sure that the device is properly connected and try again"
Finally, if I try to just do a clean install of DM, I get the ""failed to connect to the device. be sure that the device is properly connected and try again"
I used DM 5.0, 4.7 and 4.2. I also got a new phone and used a different computer. Same results. HELP!!

Try using a different USB cable if you have one. In my experience, these cables are garbage, across the board, from manufacturer to manufacturer.
I buy enough devices that use them that I just look for a new one when mine stops working. Try a different cable.

20 hours later and still not working
Tour received Tuesday. 20 hours later, after install / reinstall / clean install after clean install, removing all registry entries, removing XPSP3, updating all dell drivers, running windows updates and trying anything and everything, trying several different flavors of desktop manager insluding but not limited to 4.3 and 5.0 (software) and then USB & modem drivers only (downloaded from BB support site as instructed by 3 different RIM tech support agents...device manager > Other> ? Blackberry (the drivers for this device are not installed, Code 28) and no matter what is done, The "device cannot be installed; unable to find the necessary software) even after pointing to C: Common > RIM > USB. Am a Tech support customer of RiM. Have gone through 5 techs. Support # 7380493 if RIM is monitoring. Ready to return device to Sprint for refund. This is not a crap computer, Dell GX520
