Default Did You guys all get new SIMS?

Please Login to Remove!

In looking at my order status, I noticed that cingular is shipping a new SIM with my 8700c. Did you all get new SIMS? One other member mentioned something about needing a new SIM for EDGE compatability. Any thoughts? I work right near several Cingular stores in the city so I'll be bringing it over to them to transfer over from my 7290.

New SIM is for "future" UMTS compatability, not EDGE. That, according to the sales rep I spoke with.

It ships with a 64K Single 410 SIM. It is not the NEW UTMS/3G SIM released last Monday.

Thanks for all the responses folks. So then am I correct in assuming that the new SIM has to be inserted and my current Cingular number and BB service brought over to it? I user BWC so I also guess I have to log on to my web account and shoot down a service book to the new PIN and EMEI of new unit.

Yes. New devices are always shipped with new SIM. you should always use the new SIM and transfer your service to it.

Why, it works fine with the old Cingular SIM from my 7290.

Default New SIM?

No new SIM for me. I just took my existing SIM out of my 7290 and activated my 8700. Is that because I'm a "blue" - former ATTWS customer and still have an ATTWS SIM?
Works fine and EDGE actually makes reading and posting here via the 8700 bearable.
Enjoy...Happy Thanksgiving.

John, did you ask if you needed the new SIM?

No, becasue the new SIM is to a new account. I wanted to see if I could use my government account on the unit with the older 7290 SIM. So far, it seems to be just fine. Email and phone work well as does the browser.

I have an existing account and phone. They shipped a new SIM without asking. It is a 64K SIM, the one in my 7290 was 32K. Both on Orange network.
