Red face Help! BB8320 cannot find network in India

Please Login to Remove!

I bought my BB8320 in HK a month ago. It was unlocked by software in Shenzhen China and can be used very normally in China and HK. BUt now when I came to India, it cannot be used. After I put the local mobile SIM card, it keeps searching network signal and fails to find any. Sometimes it can find the network, but it is not stable and disappears very soon, I cannot proceed any phone call nor can receive any call. It displays "SOS" always in the network signal indicating place. I am in a hurry to use the phone. Is there anybody can help me with this? I will be really grateful for ur help. My ROM is 4.5.0.161 and I can make sure my BB has been unlocked.

Sounds like you may have it set for "home only". Have you checked that under "mobile network"?

Yes, I checked that, it is under "mobile network". Is this possbily caused by unlocking or some physical problems? But i remembered very clearly it was even working in HK aireport. When I got off the plane in Mumbai, India, I just changed the local SIM card, then I found it didn't work any more. I am totally confused now.

For some reason I want to say check smart dialing in the phone options. Someone else had an eerily similar story and smart dialing was the answer. But I think that he could get a signal, just couldn't dial correctly.

Does the HK sim card work if you try that?

I have changed the setting in smart dialing into the Indian codes. But the phone can be used well in HK without changing the setting. When I checked the smart dialing setting, I found the country code was +852(the HK code), not China code(+86). I didn't change the smart dialing before this time. So it seems the phone can change the setting accordingly and automatically. But anyway, now after I changed the setting, it still cannot work. Sometimes, it does find networks but very unstable, disappear very fast.

Ok, but can you put the HK sim card in there while in India and see if it will find a roaming network? What I was thinking is if that sim worked, then maybe your Indian sim card needs to be replaced.

But there I can only find two options, Manual or Automatic, no "home" option. No matter I set it under "automatic" or "manual" and choose the right network, it still fails to catch the network signal. Very confused and frustrated!
