Was at son's football game against Navy last week and was rained on for 4 hours. Bold was in my pants pocket and then inside jacket pocket but still got wet and has red square inside and on battery showing water damage. Would not work after the game at all. Left open to dry all night, recharged for another day and everything works except the "push select" with the trackball and the letter "i" (or shift/alt keys "I" and "-"). Any idea how to fix these two issues? Also, strangely I get a message about 20 times a day asking if I want to assign a speed dial number to the letter "I" (that I can't use when typing).
I think the "I" key is stuck. That's why its asking you if you want to assign it as a speed dial key. Take it to a repair shop. You're lucky that's the only issue
I just dropped my Bold a few weeks ago directly into the sink where the faucet was shooting water down onto it...sucks, I know..But i left it to dry for 48 hours, same speed dial thing happend and certain keys didnt work. I simply put it into a bag of rice and let it dry again (battery and sim card out) and a day later it was working 100 percent. I would let it dry more first before taking it to repair where they might make you pay to repair it.
This is going to sound wierd, but it's been known to work for electronic devices that get wet. We did this with our son's iPod Nano that went through the wash.
1. Remove battery cover, battery, and SIM
2. Fill a Ziploc bag with uncooked white rice and place your Bold, battery and SIM in the bag
3. Make sure the bag is large enough and that there is enough rice so that the Bold and all the parts are covered.
4. Keep it in a bag for at least a day or two.
In our case we laid the bag on a warm (not hot) surface.
There is something about the rice that absorbs the moisture. It won't make the red dot go away, but you might be able to salvage the phone.
I had read about this on another forum, and when the iPod went through the wash I went on the Apple forums and found out that it's a known remedy.
