Default 9700 Phone Problem - Unusable - Help Please

Please Login to Remove!

Tried to search but couldn't find anything helpful because not sure how to describe problem in just a few words. I have an ATT 9700 running OS 9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel645_PL5.1.0.112_A5.0.0.405_AT_am p_T. Recently, when I make or receive a call, the device gets stuck in an unstoppable cycling switching back and forth between handset and headphone mode even though I am not trying to use a headphone. Makes the phone unusable for that call and so I have to hang up. The problem comes and goes without explanation. It may last for 10 minutes and then the phone works fine. If you know of a thread, please let me know. Otherwise, I'd appreciate advice. The problem never occurred before I update my OS so maybe that is the problem, but I'd like to confirm before I take the time to downgrade to a prior OS. Thanks in advance, JT

.405 is ATT approved and i ran it on mine for a while without any problems. i would say try reloading .405 and see if that fixes it. but really, i would recommend going to .423 battery life is noticeably better and is really stable on an ATT 9700. i had no complaints or ANY problems with .423

I won't be much help but I can say that I've had this problem before. I just don't remember how I resolved it.

If your OS is not the latest then I would definitely upgrade.

well, .405 is the latest for ATT. so he kinda does have the latest. im just suggesting to go with a newer one if he is comfortable loading a non supported OS on the device. and keep in mind, that there are actual improvements going from .405 to .423 its not just a matter of having the "latest and greatest"

Thanks to you both. I've reloaded .405 already. If no one else out there knows about this issue and a fix, I will probably try .423. Much appreciated. JT

MrKyoo, If you happen to remember how you resolved the issue at some point, please let me know. Thanks! JT

have you ever had a headset plugged in to it? im wondering if there is some kind of damage to the contacts inside and maybe there is an intermittent contact making the device "think" there is a headset plugged in. try plugging a headset in and out a few times to cycle the contacts. maybe that will adjust a contact to where it should be. and if you have used a headset, do you experience the same problem while its plugged in? or does it remain in the headset mode?

That is a lingering concern. But I don't use the headset that often because I have BT. And I tried plugging my BB-issued wired headset in while the problem was occurring to no effect. If I can't ID a software based issue, I'm going to have to replace the device, which costs $$$. So, I am hoping someone knows about an OS issue....LOL! JT

Take a dust blower and blast the headphone port, might be dirt shorting the connections
