just got a Bold 9000. how can I see the clock even in sleeping mode?

You can't.
Sleep mode turns off the screen and puts the device in a low-power state.

Mine doesn't... it turns off all the lights except the clock, and then dims the clock.

I use it as an alarm clock now, and glance at it during the night to see what time it is.

I'm using the dock for it on my nightstand, but it should be the same as plugging in the charger.

Sleep mode disables all of the buttons and the screen, and is toggled with the mute key. Whereas bedside mode appears to be what you are describing.

That's BEDSIDE mode, not SLEEP mode.

the SLEEP mode is the state YOU are in when you have the device in BEDSIDE mode.

ok - many thanks'' will use the word 'bedside' in the future ). what I should have asked is then: can i set my Blackberry Bold so the time (and only the time) is visible at all times when I'm on the run?

Just put it in bedside mode...

Open the clock... press menu... select ENTER BEDSIDE MODE.
