Tomorrow I am purchasing a 9700 that is locked to t-mobile. I was wondering if I am going to have any issues with unlocking and locking it to AT&T?

They use different frequencies.
Voice and SMS will be fine, but you won't get 3G or UMA on it - all you will get is EDGE.

You can get unlock code for blackberry 9700 by third party after unlock blackberry 9700 you can use any GSM network Sim card around the world

Because I am still within contract and I can't find a AT&T 9700 for a reasonable price.

Yeah I understand that, I was just curious if I was going to have any issues like not being able to use 3G which I just recently found out.

However, Rogers is the same 3G frequency as AT&T, and I believe Bell and Telus 9700 models are also.
So, if you could find one of them for the same price as a T-mobile 9700, you'll be able to have 3G.

Just writing to confirm that Rogers is the same 3G frequency as AT&T and the version of the 9700 that Bell & Telus sells is also compatible with AT&T's 3G network. I've heard that Rogers 9700 is easier to unlock than the version that is sold by Bell or Telus.

On a somewhat similar note, the only Canadian carrier that offers a Bold 9700 that isn't compatible with AT&T's 3G network is Wind... Wind's Bold 9700 is compatible with T-Mobile's 3G network.

All versions of the 9700 will work with AT&T's GSM/GPRS/EDGE network... just not their 3G network.
