Default Brand new phone: updates

Please Login to Remove!

I just got my phone last night. Today, I used the USB and connected it to my PC. It scanned for updates and asked me if I wanted to update...

There was a list of things, some OS and some languages and stuff... How do you know which to update, or do you normally just accept all updates? I wasn't sure what to do, so I did nothing... But when I connect again, I would like to know what I should do.

I have the Blackberry 8530 and it has the 5.0 OS. Are there always updates to that? And how often should I connect to the pc to backup and check for updates?

Sorry so many questions. I'm learning.. I just don't want to do anything to screw up my phone.

If your phone is working with the OS currently on it, there is no need to do an update. Many will likely disagree, but that is my opinion.

You should do backups a frequently. Think about it like this, if you berry dies or has to be replaced, how much data do you want to lose. The answer to that question should help you decide how often to do backups.

That's basically what I was thinking.. especially after reading about people doing updates and losing everything.

But there was that list of things... maps, language, etc... It's alot to learn! haha

Thank you.

Backing up the BB does not depend on doing updates. I would do that often.

Unless your OS is jacked like the current official 5.0 release from Verizon for the 9630. Then you will want to either upgrade or downgrade to a lower version of 5.0.
