Not sure if this should be here or the general section...

I'm still relatively new to BBs and I'm now on a Torch 9800 coming from a 9000 Bold of 2 years. I've never had to reload an OS on my Bold, I've always upgraded the OS.

With my 9800 I've gone through the DSW and I was able to get all my icons and apps moved over without issue. Until recently I've noticed that my FB and a few other apps don't update and show me the icons in the notification tray. The apps do work but the notifications don't. All my settings are the same as my 9000 as far as how I want to be notified. IIRC, these were working the first week or so that I've had my 9800.

I am wondering, what is the best way to reload the Stock OS, and if I use a backup from my 9800 or try another DSW from my 9000 would I still likely encounter the same problems?

So, DSW = the switch device wizard?

If I understand you correctly, what I would do is first try and hard reset (battery pull with the power on, for at least 30 seconds) and see if that corrects matters. If not, then I would delete all the apps that were on the old device and switched over to the new, and then download and install them from app world or wherever.

You probably do not need to reinstall the OS.

LOL, yes... I meant SDW...

I usually just hit the alt-shft-Del keys to reboot. Is there a difference between a BP and the hotkeys?

I already tried a security wipe and reload of a backup, and I am still seeing the same problems. And I have lost all my 3rd party apps from my 9000. I might have to just restore to factory and try again.

There is a difference between alt-cap-del and a hard reset. The soft reset corrects many issues, but a hard reset fixes almost all weird stuff. Once or twice, I've had to do a second hard reset and leave the battery out for a minute or two instead of the minimum 30 seconds. And some people have reported having to do two or three hard resets to correct a problem.

Good luck. Restoring the OS isn't going to hurt anything. And it will be no sweat if you've done it before. If you haven't done it before, just don't get in a hurry. Some phases seem to take forever and you may think it has crapped out on you; just let it finish.

I've done it a few times on my 9000, but I wasn't sure if it would be different with OS6... I have done some BPs without any changes. I may venture into the leaked .214. I don't do it often, but I just might need to on this one.
