Can you define fiddling? Ie. Wiggling the USB cable or checking a box on the BlackBerry?

If you have to "jiggle" the usb cable to get the computer to recognize the blackberry, you might try a new cable. If that doesn't work you could have an issue with the connector inside the blackberry and will need to have it repaired, something that could be covered under your warranty, or through your carrier.

Also as SteveO86 mentioned, in the Options-Memory menu, how do you have your "Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected". "Yes" will make it quickly find it, "Prompt" will ask you if you want to connect, and "No" the computer will never recognize it.

Yes. And don't forget... You absolutely MUST use a BB Data cable. Any other USB cable won't work, nor charge your Berry.

Mine often doesn't pick up and I end up switching my bb off/on

It's not about fitting, it's the internal wiring. I tried 4 different usb cables that fitted just beautifully. They just wouldn't charge it. After that, I bought a replacement BB cable and it was all good. As far as transferring data goes, if a non-bb cable won't charge, why risk Critical Data?
