Greetings, first post!

I have tried searching for the answer to my problem, but to no avail. I had recently gotten my Blackberry Bold 9700 stolen, and the people who stole it might have been pretty techie guys who know what they are doing with technology. On the phone itself, I had personal sensitive information on the phone (bank account info, and health insurance info). I had a password that was on the phone and was locked the last time I had saw it. I just don't remember if Content Encryption was enabled or not on the phone. I've done research on ways that people can get the .IPD files from the phone, but are you able to obtain that file and convert that file into a MS Word document and see all the information that was on my phone with just the password lock on the phone? Or is there a way of just taking the memory chip out and somehow analyze it that way? If there is any sort of way to get into that 9700 Bold, I would like to know, and I guess assume that the content protection was off.

No, this is not correct.
There are no .IPD files on the device itself. An .ipd file is a backup file on your PC created by BlackBerry Desktop Software.
For someone to grab your .ipd backup file, they would need access to your Windows PC.

If your device was password protected, then the only way to access that data is to know your password.
There is no back door.

Oh, well... Thank you! That was reassuring, but it still doesn't help that bad people have earned themselves a phone that they don't deserve!

So seriously, BlackBerry had made that device so that not even BlackBerry's own hardware/software designers cannot even access information from a password locked device?

Yes.
This is why they are used by government agencies and many other industries that require protection on their mobile devices.

Make sure that you have reported the theft/loss to your carrier. You are liable for all charges up until you report it and they acknowledge it. Some carriers will blacklist the PIN ans IMEI, but I don't think AT&T does that.
