i had a desktop that connected with by BB and my BB worked fine. one day, i decided to delete an app. upon deletion it asked to reset, so i did. then, on re-boot i get an error message about uncaught exception... bla bla. nothing i do will enable the device.

i have tried pulling the battery, while powered on for more than 30 seconds. no matter what the BB will not connect to desktop. i have tried doing a battery pull and then quickly connect to desktop.

nothing.

i need a hard (super) reset back to factory default. how do i do this?

You could try a security wipe:

In OS 5: Options>Security>General>Press Menu Key>Wipe Handheld

Remember that all of your data will be deleted.

i would be happy to try this, but unfortunately i can not get to that screen. like i said, when i turn on the power to the BB i can not get past the error message. it just hangs.

i need a hard reset option. pulling the battery while power on or off for however long you want makes no difference.

Did you drop the device or get it wet?

Will it connect to DM? If not, check the yellow sticky at the top of the BB Help section.

One alternative is to install BBSAK (BB Swiss Army Knife - use Google to find it) on your PC and see with the device will connect and then wipe from there.

You could also try to wipe with Jl_cmder (see the FAQ) and reload the OS (see the yellow sticky at the top of the 9300 section for the OS and instructions).

Third option is try to return it and get a warranty replacement.

no, i just uninstalled an app.. and then it went bad. i'll try your suggestions and let you know how it goes.

worked great! used the app to reset factory default. i lost all my contacts, but it booted up just fine. i synchronized to my PC and got all my contacts back the next minute.
