Default BES 4 to 5 migration question (new server, same SRP)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I guess it's time to upgrade our BES 4 server to version 5. For that I intend to build a new server from scratch, create a new database and use the Blackberry Enterprise Transporter to migrate users. That scenario is covered in the RIM upgrade guide. The only catch is that I only have one SRP. That case is not covered in the guide . I have already started the job using that scenario. I now have my new server on 5.0.3 and have made sure during the install/upgrade that the services never started. The next step would be to move the users using the BET. I could do that, stop the services on the old BES, start the services on the new BES and off we are. BUT, existing policies cannot be migrated by any tool (right?) and that's a prerequisite before having the users go online on the new BES. In order for me to create the new policies I guess the services should be running. I also guess I can do that as long as the SRP connection can not be established (I would enfore that through firewall policies)? Is that a correct assumption? I know it's tricky but in theory it should work. Has anyone migrated like this before?

You need a 2nd SRP. Contact RIM and ask them for a migration kit.
They should give you a temporary SRP to use for your migration.

There are different ways to do this but all depends on your requirements and what you have currently in place. Where is the old database, do you really need a new one created etc...

I will try this route as well. Might be the safest.

I guess I only need to get confirmation on the statement that as long as both servers don't connect to RIM with the same SRP at the same time, it should be fine.

Fyi, it seems the migration kit is only available in the US and only for certain customers.
I am advised to get on with a trial license.

That'll work. Trial license will give you the same thing as a migration kit.

trial works only if you have 20 users or less.

you could use transporter to BES Express and then transport to BES after.

The OP could get a temp SRP ID and I don't believe there is a user limit. However, there is a time limit of 90 days.
