Hello All,

Firstly please forgive my ignorance regarding all things Blackberry. I am new to this but allready excited about the possibilities of this great device.

I bought an unlocked 7100v off ebay and its in very good condition.

I have upgraded to 4.x and all is fine so far.

However I am only at this point going to be using it on a data plan and not on a blackberry plan until work pull their fingers out.

I was under the impression that I would still be able to use a web browser and an email application via GPRS.

Firstly can't seem to find a web browser or an email client to do this with?
Help on that with some locations would be marvelous.

Secondly the only app i have tried so far keeps saying connection refused even though I have set up the apn etc as per 02 my network.

I am getting the 'data connection refused' thing on my device but I guess thats because its not connecting with a push system?

Any advice would be greatfully recieved.

No BlacKberry Data Plan no service, period. For Email, Web, Third party apps etc. you require a BlackBerry Data Plan no way around. Whatever you were told about your current data plan is incorrect for the BlackBerry.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Thats a bit pants then!!! From what I have read on here I thought you could use it and do things over a GPRS connection.

A real shame as I love it allready!!!

True, if you had expectations to be able to use it with GPRS, then it doesnt live up to what you had hoped. But if you love it already, add the Data plan, you'll become an addict like the rest of us.

Yeah I am going to look at persuading work to go for a new plan. If not I will shell out for myself as I can see it becoming indespensible!!! I am away from the office alot and it just makes more sense to be able to check email on a BB rather than get out my PB (however I love that too)

Hopefully it will all get sorted....sucks though as the person who was selling it stated it would do email fine over GPRS!!!

Cheers

Yes, it does email over GPRS, but you will NEVER get a GPRS signal without a BlackBerry Data plan. Until you get the data plan, your best signal is going to be GSM.

GSM = no email, web, etc

Now you see this is where I am confused. It shows I have a GPRS signal and it receives text messages via gprs etc.

Now I am really confused!!

My apologies, I stated incorrect information. I forgot about gprs vs GPRS. On the BlackBerry the GPRS has to be in capital letters to signify a data signal. Lower case grps is the same functionality wise as a GSM signal.
