Default LED changes from red to green without checking message

Please Login to Remove!

I have set my 8700R LED to notify me when I receive a new message. It flashes red for a few minutes and then starts to flash green before I check for messages. Is there a setting I haven't been able find which will correct this problem? Is this a defect?

I believe this is by design. It gives you what the designers considered adequate notification, then reverts to indicate network connection. I don't know of any way to change it.

Hope this helps.

There is no way to change it. I think it stays red for 5 or 10 mins and thats it

It's not a defect. It will flash red for 15 mins then go back to green. You can turn off the green coverage indicator in Setup Options/Screen/Keyboard. That's what I did, now it flashes red till I pick up the msg.

Third Party Solution: Notifire

If you need to disable timeout for notifications for emails, this is the solution. You can even customize the LED flashing pattern depending on who you got the email from. Or SMS. Or PIN.

Customizable filters for alerts. You can even do Photo "Caller ID" for email/SMS/PIN too.

Mikester, I turned off the coverage indicator, but my email notification still only flashes for 15 minutes. I wish it would continue to flash until I've checked email. My old 7280 performed that way. But my 8700c does not.

mriff, you're right I just checked mine and it does the same. Sorry about that, I read this info in a previous thread and took it for granted.

In this case, I wish you were right. There's another thread that discussed this a while back. It doesn't make sense to me. The notification should flash until the message list is opened, imho.

I think I replied to the older thread mikester notes, about the same thing. While I agree that the BB should continually flash the red-notify light until a user retrieves a message, RIM's OS developers apparently set a limit of roughly 15 minutes before the LED reverts to green - perhaps figuring that the "envelope" message icon that stays on the screen will do the job...? My old BB7290 handled message alerts the same way, which is why I assume it's an OS thing and not device-specific.

It's unfortunate - imagine if your answering machine did the same thing, i.e. didn't beep or flash by the time you got home from work! - but there's no way to change this via RIM's OS that I've found...

That said, Mark Rejhon's suggestion about "Notifire" is DEFINITELY something I'm gonna check out!
