Default Google Local not working

Please Login to Remove!

I downloaded Google local and when I launch the program, it sits in download mode and then gives me an error asking if I have a data plan. I am on Cingular, and of course I have a data plan. Everything else works, including the BB Browser....anyone else have a problem getting GL to work?

Do any third party apps which require a data connection work?

You probably need to either make use of the MDS proxy (if you're on BES) or get accesss to the wap.cingular APN.

Repligo works, but sometimes burps and I have to reset. How do I access wap.cingular?

Cingular gives you access, but it costs 1 cent per kb, not too bad, unless you plan on using it alot. wap.cingular is for cell phones, 3rd party programs are not supported by cingular, and the apps usually dont have support for the blackberry.net apn. People always blame Cingular for this, not true, its the fault of the software creator. So yea, although you have a "Data plan" that gives you an account feature called "blackberry.net" in order to use 3rd party apps, you need (usually) "wap.cingular" which requires a Medianet feature, or a Wireless Internet Pay per Use feature.

Angry Worked only once

Only worked once on my 7520 after install/reinstall/reinstall...numerous times. Now it crushed on me again: " Network Unavailable Downloading maps & info depends on a network connection. Do you have...." -- as dumb as it reads. I decided to uninstall it for the 12th time.

The reason why it didn't work for me and a few other co-workers is due to our 3rd party proxy service which was blocking the port the data was attempting to stream in on (I don't know the port number unfortunately). Once we flipped a few switches and talked with our service provider, it worked flawlessly.

You may want to check with your IT folks to see if indeed a proxy server is standing in the way. Who knows...your peeps in IT may have a vested interest to get Google Local working on their Blackberries too. ;)
