Hello! I've purchased a BB 9670 from USA locked by Sprint. I'm currently living in Romania. I got it thinking to use it on wifi, just the apps and so on, I don't need it as a phone. Can I set up email on it?

When setting the email account this message comes up: "Your device has not been activated with your wireless service account. To activate your device now, select the Activate button" and when I try to activate it, I get the message "The profile could not be updated. Please try again later. If the problem persists, contact your wireless service provider".

Can someone please advise a little, as I'm not used to BB? Can I not use the phone for email and other apps using wireless?

The 9670 is a CDMA only device. It cannot be unlocked. Even if it was a GSM device (and could be unlocked), you would need the Service Books from your phone service provider and a BlackBerry Data Plan in order to use data features such as email and apps even over WiFi.

Thank you for the reply. I did register the phone online and anyway I forget how it all went cause it was 2 months ago, but I can download and use apps, only thing is that I can't use the mail and perhaps some other features but I was at least wanting to be able to sync mail over wifi...

On what carrier and in what country are you trying to use the device?

You cannot use it in Romania (or anywhere in the EU for that matter).

I don't wish to use it with any carrier in Romania. I only want to use it with wi-fi but can't set up email account.

It won't work. BlackBerrys are different. It won't work on just WiFi.

thanks for your replies! just one more question and I'm outahere. The issue is this: I can surf the web on it no problem, so gmail or whatever mail goes fine that way, but no pop3 option (or mail setup) if I'm in Romania? I can also download and use apps. How about jailbreak or whatever it's called in BB? - haven't had a BB before, but i'm accustomed to iphone.

There's no such thing as "jailbreaking" a BlackBerry.

to get native push email, you need a BlackBerry dataplan even for wifi access to it because you need to setup email on RIMs server (the device does not do the work of getting it)

Web mail will work on wifi with no dataplan
