Question BES Managment on Desktop

Please Login to Remove!

I'm trying to get the BES Management console installed on a workstation so we don't have to keep remoting to the server and logging in as the service account to add users.

I followed the direction in the installing manual but so far no go. I keep getting the attachment error.

Steps done so far.
1) Login as service account running Blackberry Services on Server
2) Run Setup and choose Install Blackberry Manager on remote computer
3) Verify connectivity as the service account (Works!)
4) Have user login, try software, doesn't work (Access Denied)
5) Grant user's account full rights to the service accounts mailbox (Using Exchange)
6) User try's BES Manager, starts up but gets attached error.

Anyone have any ideas?

Default System DSN to BES DB?

Have you created an System DSN (ODBC connection) on the workstation that points to the BES DB? Your error may suggest a data connection issue.

Damien: That's what we are trying to avoid. We wanted the user to run it so they don't have a chance to lockout the service account (has happened before).

elkabong: Yes there is a System DSN configured. The setup did that.

I have found that installing the desktop manager can be glitchy...oh sorry...feature-filled...so here are some of the things that I have done to avoid issues:

Unzip the installation software and place it in a location available to all users..i.e C:\temp and install it from here
Ensure that the account that you are using has rights to the SQL database
Ensure that the account has full control rights to the mailbox you have setup in the mapi profile on the workstation
Ensure the ODBC connection is correct and connection tests are successful (run ODBCAD32.exe)
Ensure that the version of Exchange Administrator matches the version of the Eschange Server--Including all service packs
Ensure the CDO.DLL file on the local machine in exchsvr directory matches the version on the BES and Exchange servers

If you are still having problems after all of this, I have found that opening the console through the MMC rather than the BES management application will usually fix any lingering problems and subsequently allow you to open the application.

Hope this helps!
