Hi guys,

I have put a little longer ringtone on my cell phone. The phone goes to voicemail before I can hear the whole ringtone. Is it possible to make this longer? ... maybe like 5-6 rings before it goes to voice?

Does anybody know?

Sure do, Common misconception, but this is a Carrier issue, on our switching systems, we have a setting called "Ring time" Call up customer service (NOT BB tech support) and ask for a longer ring-time for your phone. It defaults to 20 seconds (I believe) move it up to 30/35 seconds, its your choice.

You can also do this yourself. This should work on most, if not all, GSM carriers. Dial:

**61*voicemailnumber*time#

Voicemail number is the number listed under Phone->Options->Call Forwarding.

Time is time in seconds in 5 second increments.

On a lot of networks 30 seconds should be the maximum, as you may get charged for diverted calls to voicemail if it goes longer.

You can also use *#61# to get a status, but depending on the network it will most likely only show you the No Answer diverted number (typically your voice mail number) and not the divert wait time.

I set my divert time manually on both Vodafone and T-Mobile to 25 seconds with no problems. Especially nice on Vodafone, as their default divert time is very short (15 seconds).

You can search the web. I have pasted the info from a prior thread on this into my tips docs. BUT for some it hasn't worked and a call to Cust Service was still needed.

Cingular MK -- I have a model 7290 with Cingular. Can you tell me if the ring time can be longer on this model? I called customer service after I read the above and was told it could not be changed. I would like your opinion. Thanks in advance.

It can definately be done by Cingular. Dial 611 from your phone and ask them to extend the time. I did it today to add 5 seconds and I have done it in the past.

I've also had success in changing the ring tone length by calling the carrier (Cingular) as well. I believe the max is 60 seconds.

I was told by Cingular the default time on the 8700c is 20 seconds and that moving that time to anything beyond 25 seconds will cause minutes to be used if you don't answer with 25 seconds. Cingular suggested a 25 second maximun.
