Post Contact Sync over Wi-Fi or USb cable or Wired

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have a blackberry Enterprise server 5.0.3 with integration of Exchange 2010, everything is working fine smoothly except i am having a hard time activating the users e.g. i have a user who has 10,000 contacts activating over the 3G networks takes around 3 to 4 hours, i was wondering if i could activate the user using my Wi-Fi enterprise network in order to save the time.

I tried activating the user through Web Desktop Manager and through USB by attaching the device directly to the server but what it does it generate the encryption keys and active the user but sync doesn't happen without the BES data plan as soon as i activate the Mobile network it starts syncing the contents over 3G again.

I tried activating the user through Wi-Fi but it didn't work for me may be i am missing something.

Any thoughts how i can save time but syncing all the contents through Wi-Fi or wired?

Thank you.

I don't think you can make this much faster, no matter which network you use. We have educated users not to have more than 2000 contacts. If they need more, we asked them to split them into a second contact folder in Outlook. We then only sync the "Contacs" folder, but not the others.

You have to educate your users that Outlook/Exchange is not a CRM solution and not a mass-mailing solution. It is ok for personal contacts and business contacts you contact regularly, but 10000 contacts sound like a customer DB to me.

freakinvibe, thanks for the reply.

Actually the users are couple secretaries for chairman and directors and they need to have these much contacts, there is no escape from that.

Can you pls recommend any solution within the domain of Blackberry platform or a third party, if available.

The outlook contacts are synchronized already with BES but we are having strange issues such as in some cases the forward/reply option won't work, sometime the folder redirection (she has almost 300 folder) won't work etc.

I know of no third party tool that makes syncing 10000 contacts quicker on the Blackberry.

Do those secretaries really need the 10000 contacts on the Blackberry? As I said, it is ok to have them on Outlook, but do they all need to be on the BB?

There is a restriction for folder redirection (255 folders max), but not sure if that is still the case (used to be in version 4.1).

Also check how much memory is free on the device.

memory is fine we have just recently given them the bb 9790 bold, well let me have a discussion with them, if they can really put their important contacts to a separate contact folder.

Thanks a lot for your feedback.
