Default BB 8700c won't turn on...help!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi. I just purchased an unlocked BB 8700c.
Until a moment ago, everything was working fine.
I was updating the phonebook. Then, it turned itself off somehow.
Now, all I see is red blinking led. It blinks twice.

I tried to take the battery out, but it didn't help.
Does anyone have any idea why the BB is not turning on?
Help!!!

nothing. I can't even turn on the screen. The only thing that seems to do anything is that led light. it blinks red even after i take the battery out for a while.

Is there any reset button instead of just taking the battery out?

I just called the place where I bought the phone. He thinks my battery is completely dead. So, I need to leave it for a couple of hours.
Do you guys agree? I had the power adapter connected the whole time wheile i was setting up the unit. Wouldn't the unit power up when I connect the power adapter?

Not if the battery is completely dead. He may be right. Let it charge for a couple of hours then try again.

Alt-Cap-Del twice in a row. But you may have a hardware failure.

I am sure it is not a hardware failure and not an empty battery. I saw the problem with twice flashing red led on the 8700 and older BBs. In all cases it was necessary to reload the firmware. Afterwards everything was fine. But the user data on the device was lost.

After hearing battery might be the cause of the problem, I let it charged for a couple of hours, but it didn't make any difference. The unit still won't turn on. It still has red LED flashing. I also tried the 3 button reset, but that didn't work. I am leaning toward actual physical problem or flash problem like acnst suggested.

acnst, do you know how to flash the BB? When I connect my BB, it's not even recognized by my computer. BB software won't recognize the unit. How can I flash or update the unit?

Do you think unlocking might have something to do with this? When I bought this phone, it was locked cingular phone. Someone who worked at the store unlocked it while i was waiting.

When I got home, I have installed the cd that came with the unit. I think it was 4.1. Is there any known problem with the software?

MY bb basically shut off while I was updating phonebook. I was moving phone numbers from SIM card to my phone. Could this be the problem?

I really need help!!!. I decided to bring the phone back to the store tomorrow to address this situation. If anyone has a good suggest, please let me know. Thank you.

Like the other poster said, try reload the OS, or use javaloader to wipe and reinstall OS. When the OS is gone and connected to the computer, it will show disconnected, just click the app loader and it will load the OS to your handheld. Make sure you have the desktop software and OS software install on you computer.

Search the forums here for that or Jl_cmdr to wipe the handheld and reinstall the OS.

Hi. I am sorry again. I have searched the forum. Most articles talk about using Jl_cmdr for the problem solving, but it doesn't really mention where I can find it. Do you know any specific place where I can look? I really appreciate your help. Thanks.

I think I found Jl_cmdr. Jl_cmdr1.8.1 is the one I found. That's where I found. I install the software and try to wipe the BB. I don't think it did anything. I also tried to launch application loader. It's not detecting anything on my USB port. I also tried detecting the USB port, but that didn't help. Am I doing right?

Hi. If you don't mind me asking, what happened to you BB? Did you find out what was wrong with your unit? I just worried that even if I get a replacement, this will happen all over again. The seller might be selling his BBs because his BBs were cingular rejects. If you have any information, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Will that be a USB problem, did you ever connected it to the computer?

I install the software that came with the BB. I am not sure how to sync. I think I use detect port to find out whether it was connected to USB port. I think my computer recognized the BB before it stopped working. My computer clearly recognized it because it showed that small balloon message saying it's installing the driver or something.

My problem is really that amy BB is unresponsive to anything I do.
Any suggestions? If it's USB problem, what would you do?
I switched USB cable. Changed port. And I even restarted the computer just in case. That still didn't make any difference.
Anyway, i would really appreciate your input. Thanks.

The software you install is desktop manager.
When you plug the handheld in, windows recongize it, doesn't mean desktop manager is connected.
Are you using a laptop?
