Smile About using the gprs data channel without the BES and BIS services

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

I am using a Cingular 8700C in Hong Kong. I have got the device updated to HKCSL OS4.1 version and can display chinese successfully. My 8700C was unlocked (I suppose, as I can use the mobile function perfectly, like dialing phone calls and sending SMS) and I have a "Sunday Mandarin" Sim card which subscribes to a unlimited gprs data plan. I was using it before in my Dopod 900 and can use the internet without problem.

I have checked against the old posts in this forum and learnt that it is possible to use the gprs service without the BIS and BES subscription. I have tried to set the APN in TCP but I failed to make it work. I still got "gprs", "data connection refused" signals and I still have no browser in my BB.

I have tried the following combinations already:

APN username password

internet
internet guest guest
sgprs
sgprs sunday
...

no idea how to make it work ...
Would anyone please kindly give me some insight? I hope my 8700c could utilize the unlimited gprs plan ^^

Thank you very much !!

I disagree with this.

I will state it again, once more (since I stated it yesterday three times), that without a BlackBerry Data Plan (not a GPRS or WAP plan) all you will have is voice and SMS.

Not only is Blackberry a device, its a service. RIM has carefully built a technology platform which guarantees them revenue from their service....

Thus using data on a BB device without a specific BB data plan is not possible.

No BlackBerry data plan = Smart phone w/o web browsing.
