It really needs to be running only if you have jobs scheduled, like database backups.

Okay I am asking because we keep getting the following messages in our application log:

Source: SQLSERVERAGENT
Event ID: 318
Description:
Unable to read local eventlog (reason: The event log file has changed between read operations).

Source: SQLSERVERAGENT
Event ID: 311
Description:
Attempting to to re-open the local eventlog...

Source: SQLSERVERAGENT
Event ID: 312
Description:
Successfully re-opened the local eventlog - NOTE: Some events may have been missed.

Thanks
Andrew

Is the "Event Log" Windows service running? What is it Log On as? Check to make sure the logon has administrative access if not using Local System Account...

YES!!! BESMgmt (or whatever you named your config db) has jobs installed to maintain it. They run every Sunday. Without this service running you are imdeing the SQL db from being properly maintained, which can lead to performance issues. Search the BB knowledge center for Database Maintanence for more info.
