How To - Perform a clean uninstall of Google Talk

Summary

This article applies to the following:

• BlackBerry® Device Software 4.0 and later
• BlackBerry wireless devices with a color screen and at least 16 MB of memory
• Google Talk™ for BlackBerry devices

Details

This procedure removes all traces of Google Talk application from the from the BlackBerry device. The procedure consists of the following three tasks:

1. Delete the three service books associated with Google Talk.
2. Delete the two modules associated with Google Talk.
3. Register the device on the wireless network.

To delete the service books for Google Talk

Complete the following steps:

1. On the Home screen, click Options. Note: Depending on the theme running on your device, you may need to click Settings, then Options.
2. If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 or later, click Advanced Options, then Service Book. If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 4.0 or earlier, click Service Book.
3. Click the Key Negotiation [KEYNEGO] service key and select Delete.
4. Click the BBFS1 [BBIMCONFIG] service key and select Delete.
5. Click the BBFS1 [BBIM] service key and select Delete.
6. Click the trackwheel and select Close.

To delete the modules for Google Talk

Complete the following steps:

1. On the Home screen, click Options. Note: Depending on the theme running on your device, you may need to click Settings, then Options.
2. If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 or later, click Advanced Options, then Applications. If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 4.0 or earlier, click Applications.
3. Click the trackwheel and select Modules.
4. Click net_rim_bb_qm_google and select Delete.
5. When prompted to reset the device, click No.
6. Click net_rim_bb_qm_google_resource_en and select Delete.
7. When prompted to reset the device, click Yes. The device is reset.

Register the device on the wireless network

Once the device has returned to the Home screen, register the device on the wireless network. For instructions, see KB-00510.

I don't know if I should ask a question under this guide but why in the 1st place someone would want to uninstall Gtalk? I just got a BB and I saw that application was available and before installing I would like ot get some feedback if it's great... and since I saw a guide to clean uninstall it then I thought that maybe there was a reason.

Well gTalk takes up bandwidth. And if you live in a country like Australia where a 'unlimited' plan doesn't exist.. it's costly. Sometimes it's better to just remove the application from the device to avoid any issues. Also, without the guide, I wouldn't really have a clue how to remove it properly.

I followed the instructions listed above for a clean uninstall, but for some reason the Application Icon wont go away on the desktop of my 7130E. When I go to Adv Opt, App the google app is still gone (since I deleted it prior)...yet it continues to haunt me on the main screen.

Any ideas? ...or do I need an exorcist?
