I only posted again about this because people were talking about some third party linux app to do the same thing, and I think most new blackberry users don't know That you can get BES for free, now my only question is, if I register my pin, I get 1 srp key, 1 srp auth id, and 1 cal. If i then register another blackberry, can I use that cal on my first BES express server?

I would venture to say no, RIM is pretty good about not letting those type of loop holes work.

i think the poster's intention was simply one of stating that this is NOT a general user application and should not be treated as such. unfortunately with the nature of the availability of this application, there are a lot of people who have NO business even looking at it asking questions. and no offense to them, but its rather annoying to us that do this for a living to have questions asked by people who have no clue what a computer is much less that of an enterprise-level email solution. hope that makes sense.

bis is meant more for people with pop/imap accounts and is manageable by the end user online... cingular for example

www.cingular.com/blackberrystart will redirect you to the bis login screen so you can access your cingular bis acct



BES is more a corporate solution with many users.. think of BES as something that is managed by your IT admin and has the ability to bring down your calendar, tasks, email, address book from your computer on your company server to your blackberry...it really is a great solution if you have it available to you

It was a simple question not meant to turn into a big deal. I was just curious why so many people are willing to pay money for it. There is obviously something great about it that I wasn't aware of. I was aware of some of its uses but just wanted the full story, so I thought I would ask.

the bes is a lot faster, has the ability to monitor what your BB users can and cant do or you can make it so they can do or cant do on their BB. the ability to have wireless access to your calendar, address book, emails in real time...its real Tits if you have the opportunity to get on a bes

corporate enterprises and government agencies that have the money to spend on solutions that are secure and allow for administration and auditing are generally going to shell out the dollars when necessary. that's just a fact of life, especially in the post-scandal world we live in with more and more government oversight of pretty much any and everything we do. the number one IT expense by companies in the last 2 years has been on security - prior to that, there were companies that cared, but for the most part it was not really all that important (especially for smaller companies).

If your provider is Cingular, getting a hosted BES account means you won't have to call Cingular every month to sort out the errors in your bill. This is really important if you use stuff like Pocket day, instant messaging, ssh, ... and/or travel internationally. If you use the Cingular APN, you will almost certainly get bills that you will have a hard time figuring out.

Is it worth $20/month? It is to me.
