Default problem setting up yahoo account

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I'm new to BBforums, and new to owning a blackberry. I typically consider myself pretty savvy techwise, as i've had no problems setting up my corporate email or my gmail account on my new 8700c, but everytime i try to set up my yahoo email account which is my most frequently used email, i get the following error message:

"an error occured during email account validation"
"please check your information and try again"
"if the error persists please contact your account provider"

is this something that can be corrected with a configuration adjustment

i am definitely using the correct email address and password, and i dont know if it's necessary for push or not, but i do have yahoo's pop forwarding as well.

any suggestions?

If you have nextel/sprint its there fault! I had the sme problem 2 days back with my yahoo email which i have had on my nextel.blackberry.com account for months now. they are having huge issues with RIM and getting everything to work right. Im sure if you called them they would say its a national data outage lol. Give it a day and try it again in the mornig and see if it works. If not call who ever your service is with and they might be able to set it up on there computers

thanks for the feedback mythmb...sorry i neglected to mention that i'm on cingular wireless. i have considered periodically trying it over the next few days just to see if one time it happens to click. I guess that'll be my worst case scenario if nothing else comes up.

I'm on cingular as well. Question...is this a free yahoo email account? If so it won't work. You'll need to Yahoo Plus(paid) account that has POP3. Yes it sucks....

i do have the yahoo plus package as well. sorry for leaving out so many details.

is there a problem if i forward the email too many times? currently i have my yahoo account forwarded to my Mac mail application. Perhaps I am only allowed to forward to one application? I have not read any restrictions on the amount of forwarding, but maybe thats a no-brainer that I should've considered?

try this...put in your email address but no password
this should take you to a screen asking if you've enabled POP
then it will ask your for the server settings
then it should add w/o a problem

i've heard Cingular has issues adding Yahoo! accounts
also - i'm sure you've checked this - but make sure your POP access is enabled

I can vouch for this workaround, it does work. No Yahoo Plus neccessary.

Default Many thanks!

Just got my 8700 yesterday. Spent 2.5 hours trying to add my yahoo account....about to SCREAM. Found your forum and this particular question/answer allowed me to successfully do the work around and my yahoo account is added. You SAVED my day.

I have Cingular and am having difficulty launching this work around. Where do I need to make sure my POP is enabled? I'm setting up this new account on BIS and it won't let me for some reason.

thanks

you need to check your Yahoo! settings - under options i belive - to make sure POP is enabled

if you don't have Yahoo! plus you won't be able to have POP access and therefore can't add to Cingular BIS

all other BIS 2.0 carriers have an agreement that you don't need POP access - Cingular is the only one yet to agree to this

the server is pop.mail.yahoo.com

Apologies.

I am with Cingular but I also use Yahoo in conjucntion with AT&T/Yahoo DSL. As such, my pop settings are mail.sbcglobal.com as opposed to yahoo pop settings. This may be why I am able to do this. Let me test with yahoo pop settings and see what happens.
