Default BIS 2.1 Information (Limited)

Please Login to Remove!

Russell over at BBHub has two articles on BIS 2.1, providing information on New Icons that will show up when it is pushed out. Check out This One.

Hope this helps.

When are we expected to see these changes? Didn't Cingular just recently release their BIS 2.0?

Not much of an upgrade.

This is not rumur, but fact. Links are straight to new documents in the BlackBerry Technical Knowledge Center. Russell often quotes new documents on his blog.

What Is - Different versions of BlackBerry Internet Service
What Is - New icons on BlackBerry device for BlackBerry Internet Service 2.1
How To - Prevent the new BlackBerry Internet Service 2.1 icons from appearing on the BlackBerry device

I'm sure there will be some error correction and hopefully elimination of the delays I've read about. Haven't transitioned to 2.0 and won't as long as I have te option, or they bring back the use of Folders.

Just my $0.02

I guess I was a lucky one. I didn't get a BlackBerry until T-Mobile was already using BIS 2.0. I have never had any issues with it. But then again, I never lost functionality from an upgrade.

Well its been a week now and all the delays I experienced over the past month (every few days) has stopped. RIM responded to my 6 week ticket saying the problem has been resolved. So far, so good.

When does NEXTEL plan to do this? I see that Yahoo mail can now be added to the BIS...

2.1 seems like a large jump in version numbers, perhaps there is more than just some new icons for 2.1, although there isn't much to go on.

Interesting. I'm holding out just a little bit longer. Why? Because it's fun to be a renegade.

I wonder if BIS 2.1 will bring back our storage limit info and days to delete messages. I know with the BWC on Nextel I was able to select features to keep messages on the server for 30 days or so and I had a 50 MB limit that changed to 10 MB then back up to 25 MB. But, since the onset of BIS I have no more control over this and when I go to forward saved messages with or without attachments a few days later I am greeted with the infamous red X...

How can you tell if your carrier has implemented 2.1? Right now, I'm on Cingular with BIS 2.0 (as far as I can tell).

According to the RIM knowledgebase, you can do a Register on your BB. If your carrier has implemented 2.1 it will download the new icons.

To register, click options, advanced options, host routing table, click wheel, register now.

No 2.1 on T-Mobile as of yet.

Anyone know what 2.1 adds, besides new icons?
