All my friends have huge text message plans, but I am already paying for bis. Is there anyway I can send text messages over data plan. On my computer I can send people text messages with aim, but not working to well with yak-on. Any ideas any one? And I know on cingulars website you can send messages. Any ideas anyone.

You can send unlimited SMS (text) messages from your BlackBerry with your data plan from Cingular.

That is what I was told as well with Cingular. $4.99 for 200 text messages a month even if you pay the $45 BB unlimited data package.

Maybe I am mistaken. I thought that it was part of the BlackBerry package. Anyway, you can send emails to <number>@teleflip.com and then the message uses your unlimited BlackBerry data plan.

Well even before I called cingular I couldn't receive messages. Once I called and activated the sms messages then I was able to receive messages and send. So I can put the number and then @teleflip.com?

Just so everyone is not confused, SMS is NOT included in the BlackBerry unlimited data plan on Cingular.
But there is a work around listed in the post above.

Why Yahoo! or Gmail? It's just what those people decided to use as their domain.

Check the teleflip page, but here's the quick one minute reason. Normally, what you're suppose to do is <number>@<provider's funky domain>, for TMO it's <number>@tmomail.net (if I recall correctly), but you need to know which carrier the people you're trying to message to are on. I.e. if you do <TMO #>@cingular.net, well, your friend at TMO will never get your message. Teleflip will figure out which carrier your friend's number is on and send the message correctly on its merry way.

But you still need the Text Message part of the plan to receive up to 200 text messages without getting charged $0.10 a pop. You can send a short message through teleflip using your data plan but you can't receive a reply without getting charged for the text message reply because it is sent to you as a text message not an email message.

Not true. If you have them send it to your e-mail address and not to your phone number then it won't charge you for a text message, it will be part of your data plan.

Cingular loves SMS. The only "free" data with unlimited is internet and email.
maybe RIM will offer its SMS messenger program for the 8700. worked great on other models but they won't download it to the 8700 units.

Compose as an email.
In the "to" field, type: ##########@teleflip.com and then send.
I think there is a character limit of 160 or something, so don't write a big, long paragraph

this is probably a very old post but, that would work in a perfect world but, i have over 100 contacts, who i send/receive texts from daily (not all 100 but you get the idea) to get a hold of each and every one of them and have them do the above would be a bigger pain in the ass than just paying the extra $5/200 texts or $9/400 texts... know what i mean???
either way, it will save at least 50% of the charges for texts, but you still have to pay...
EDIT: DELETED SOME STUPID MATH... sorry if you read it already!

i found another way to send sms i posted it in another thread but here is what i posted.
You know what have been doing, I got verichat and I am using aim to send sms. On my comp at home in my buddy list I put +1 and then area code and number. On my BlackBerry in verichat you can send those numbers text messages and when they respond its an instant message. But they are using sms. But they prob don't have a data plan. So basically to sum everything up you can send sms to phones through aim, in verichat you can send sms to cell phones.
you can view the thread here
