Unhappy T-Mobile & 8100... What about me?

Please Login to Remove!

Ok.. apparently T-Mobile decided not to carry the 7130 because they have the 8100 coming out. I can understand that and it makes sense.

However, they've forgotten about users like me. User's who want a faster blackberry that has EDGE, but CAN'T have a blackberry with a camera on it.

I'm really hoping there's some secret plan to also release 8100's that don't have camera's. Before anyone says it... I don't want an 8700. I like the form factor of the 71xx.

RIM will not alienate the large Govt. customer base that can not have a Camera et al. Its just that they need to keep active in both the Consumer and Corparate market, if they neglect one or the other they risk losing both sectors. They have just released BES 4.1 which helps us, the 8100 helps the consumer market.

Never fear, we will not be left out.

Well, jibi, I certainly not one to doubt you, but there is a hint of truth to what he said. Maybe not exactly, but partially. I have an unlocked 7130g on T-Mobile. I and Tmo customer service have been completely unable to get the ippp for bibs service book to my 7130. So, while they do have the service books, there is no way to get them to install. I have tried every possible method. Ultimately, I called TMo, they then put me on with RIM, who told me that because there was not a T-Mobile verson of the handheld OS, there was no way to get the service books to me.

It was either here or on BBCool where I read that the camera could be disabled by the enterprise admin. Would that be enough to make it usable for the gov't and high security environments? If so it'd be interesting. I personally don't care... but i'm curious what that means for you MIBs

Like NJBlackberry said, what's wrong with the 8700 for a no-camera/with EDGE BB?

it doesnt really matter man, I can take an 8100 put it on cingular and works fine, with all service books, then take it and put it on rogers and works fine with all service books...if the device is registered on the network with the BIS then all service books that would come down for any other blackberry device will come down for that, why do you think everyone was taknig 8700c's and unlocking them and putting them on T-Mobile 3-4 months before release..

Might want to call them back. Sounds like a line of BS to me.

Ever tried explaining the intricacies of BES and software to a security officer? They'll simply see the camera lens, and then there's trouble. Better to stick with an 8700 for secure environments.

i mentioned to our VP of Info Sec, thinking we'd likely have a problem... he was quite elated and said he wanted one

BG, you too are correct. it isn't a big deal. I am very happy with my 7130 on TMo. I did lose some functionality because I can't get the IPPP service book, like the ability to save ringtones and pictures, and the Blackberry browser. ( I only have the Download Fun browser) But at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. Especially since i'll get an 8100 when its released

I've downloaded the TMO and Rogers OS to the Cingular 7130c and the Service books still won't download. Yet when I tried a Roger's SIM, it worked perfectly. I'm thinking Cingular has something against TMO...
I also did the whole TCP/APN. Still a no go.

Where did you find a TMO OS for the 7130?

BTW, I really didn't mean to hijack this thread. I really was just making the point that it might not be as easy to buy an 8100 for another network as people might not get all the functionality.

I wasn't worried about RIM alienating customers. My complaint was directly squarely at T-Mobile. They're forgetting about customers like me.

My blackberry is my personal blackberry. However, I do bring it into places that do not allow camera phones.

Someone else suggested buying an unlocked 7130. On eBay those go for $400. Whereas, the 8100 is supposed to have a price around $199. So I'm supposed to pay an extra $200 for a blackberry that doesn't have the mp3 player or camera, and doesn't work 100% on T-Mobile's network. That doesn't make sense to me.

I'm probably going to hold out a little longer and wait till the 8100's come out to see exactly what T-Mobile's offerings are. Worst case I'll just have to suffer through the larger form factor of the 8700.
