Sprint lets you tether for free. 39.99 a month for unlimited blackberry and use as modem. If you are in there EVDO network its worth it. I use mine everyday.

Yes it $15/month, but you could download the trial verison of sharkmodem and see how the speeds are and if you like it it's $35 one time and you don't need the tether plan just unlimited data...

I forgot about this if you are a Verizon Wireless customer they are running this promo.

"Through 9/15/2006, new and existing Blackberry users can receive one month free of the Broadband Access Connect service. This service uses the Blackberry as a modem while tethered to an end users laptop computer via the Blackberry sync cable. The one month free promotion will be issued as a one-time bill credit for either the $15/month service (users with unlimited Blackberry data service added to a voice plan) or $30/month service (users with unlimited Blackberry data plan and no voice). "

I am not sure if this is for only businesses customers or not...

I second the shark modem recommendation. I bought it before I knew about Sprint's "tether for free" thing and have been nothing but satisfied with it's performance.

I'm outside EVDO coverage and I'm too lazy to call Sprint and ask that PAM be added to my account, anyway, so Shark Modem is speedy enough for those times when I really need to do something online but there is no LAN/WLAN available.

It's not going to break any speed records, but SharkModem is a solid peice of software for $35.
