Default Bluetooth not found on PC

Please Login to Remove!

I am trying to connect my BB 8700g to the PC through Bluetooth. Honestly, I have read and read before posting, and read the different articles listed and that are linked to. I read that SP2 has bluetooth, I have SP2, but I cannot find "bluetooth devices" in the control panel or Bluetooth in the system tray or anywhere else on either of my desktop PCs. When I go to the BB Device Manger the Enable Bluetooth Support is gray. Thanks in advance for assistance.

Thanks,

Lance

Do you have the hardware in your PC to support BT?

There are after market solutions that will support BT on non-BT PCs or laptops. Here is one example however this example only supports BT v1.2:

IOGEAR: Expand Your Connectivity

Also here is a great thread on what you are attempting to accomplish:

Oh, I know...that's why I was asking the question...the SP2 reference above is what made me wonder...having the right Service Pak won't all of a sudden create BT hardware. There are a lot of USB options or the like.

Of course, if you're going to plug it in to the USB port, why not just sync it with the cable?!

Okay, so I guess I misunderstood the message on the Blackberry article where it states "Windows XP SP2 comes with a generic Bluetooth device manager." They made it sound that if you have SP2 you have Bluetooth, but I guess that is not the case--I'll just have to use the cable.

Thanks for your help.

toycannon, they're talking about the software that manages your Bluetooth connections, and they don't make it sound like you magically get Bluetooth just because you have XP SP2. You do understand that Bluetooth is a way for two devices to communicate via wireless over a short range, right? So of course that involves a transceiver of some kind? You have to actually have the hardware for it. Expecting to have BT just because you installed SP2 is like expecting your car to have four wheel drive just because you put snow tires on it. BT works a lot better with SP2 (just like 4WD in the winter works better with snow tires) than without, but that's about the only connection.

If you want to add Bluetooth to your PC, you can pick up a USB Bluetooth adapter pretty cheap.
