Default Nokia 9300 / 9500 Blackberry Connect

Please Login to Remove!

I have both of these phones and have just purchased a BB 7290 which I absolutely adore. But I miss the phone and PDA functionality of the Communicators- any idea when these devices will have BB connect?

I was also told that they would be unable to download attachments through BB, as it is only for BB devices- is this true?

Cause if the Nokia's achieved full BB functionality, BB wouldn't sell any devices, unless people wanted vibrate functionality which the Nokia Communicators are missing.

Any thoughts?

Has anyone got any clue on how to connect a 9300 o a 4.0 BES??? There is no BlackBerry client side software that seems to be included in the box and neither Nokia or RIM offer any information. Is this all a red herring or has someone sucessfully done this - and if so, how?????

I'm wondering the same thing.

From what I can tell, Nokia was waiting for the lawsuit against RIM to be settled. It has been recently. I'd say 2-3 months until BB Connect is available.

Oh, and which do you like more? The 9300 or the 9500?

I picked the 9300 purely on a size comparison. It is considerably smaller than the 9500. If size is not an issue, than go for 9500 -- I actually miss the camera feature (didn't think I would) and I think wi-fi would be awesome...

One comment though, coming from a BB, the N9300 feels like a paperweight without the push-email feature (it does have a "decent" email client that has been filling the void thus far: re-direct rule in Exchange, masking my FROM address on the device, and copying all outbound to my Exchange address (gmail is great for the go-between; 1GB means no messages ever bounce!). Free automail client from my-symbian.com provides auto-download function so you never need to manually fetch mail -- but I only get my mail once per hour).
Feature/Function/Kick-ass factor is a definate 10, business tool function without BB connect is about a 5. Wait for BB connect in your area before making the jump (if you feel so inclined)

My Nokia Rep is sending me a 9300 to review in a couple of weeks if memory serves.

She said that there is no BBC in the United States yet, but that could change at any particular moment. Nokia has no reason to be squeemish about it now.

Question Nokia 9500 and BB 7290

Hello,

I have the N9500 since 3 months now and I love it. I bought it because they promised me the RIM functionallity. As it is still not there I now also have a BB7290.

The day the RIM software I will do all on the Nokia because:
* the Nokia screen is better
* the Nokia keyboard is bigger and I like it more
* I have only one device to carry. As phone the Nokia is much better.

Regards,

Erik

I am anxiously waiting on the BlackBerry capabilities for the Nokia 9300 as well. Not having to pay for the "Office" software is a big plus in my book.

I currently have a BB7100t with T-Mobile, and getting frustrated with both. I have poor signal coverage in the office, and reconnecting to the network also takes a long time with the BB7100t.

I am testing the BB connect on a 9300 for a while now. It works fine for me, except some limitations which needs to be fixed. It works on a 9500 too.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 7230: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7100/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

So where would I purchase a 9500 for tmobile? Do I have to get it unlocked? And you said that you have been using BBC for awhile now... Where did you get it and how hard is it to set up? With tmobile what data plan do I sign up with?

I don't know a lot about data plans and contract phones, sorry. my 9300 was purchased unlocked. setting up was very easy, it was a 10 minute job.

Don't forget, you need a BES somewhere, at your provider or company. We are running our own BES 4 here ...

How much did you pay for your unlocked 9300? I am looking more for the web browsing capabilities... How are those on the 9300?

Where did you get BBConnect for the 9300? That's the only thing holding me back from buying one!

I have a BES but do not know how to configure my 9500 to use the service. Can you elaborate on how you are accessing the BES, are you using a bolt on client on the phone or is the BBC software available to download from somewhere?

First of all you need a firmware 5.22 on your device, older firmware does not work. The client is not available for download yet, I hope carriers will release the final version soon (check vodafone in germany). I had luck to get one client for beta testing. Its a sis file you need to install like other files. I like my 9300 now much better than without BB Connect. Stay tuned, its not like using a regular Blackberry device, but its nice.
