Default Need help in choosing the 8100 over the MDA

Please Login to Remove!

I am currently using a T-Mobile MDA. I love it as you can pretty much do whatever you want to it as it is Windows Mobile 5. The browsing is great and the keyboard is sweet. I was thinking about moving to the 8100. I wanted to know if the browsing would be just as good, and about the keyboard layout. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to BB Forums!

The 8100 is different than the MDA. How do you get your e-mail on the MDA? The chief strenght of the BB is still wireless e-mail.

The keyboard ("Suretype") is an acquired taste. I didn't like the MDA keyboard myself - a little too wide. The 8100 keyboard certainly takes some getting used to and you may not like it.

Browsing is pretty good on the 8100. I did like that the MDA has built in WiFi (not on any phone based BBs today) and used that quite a bit. I gave my MDA to someone on my team and they love it. We also have Exchange 2003 and can get wireless synchronization to the MDA (of course we have BES for the BBs).

There is no easy answer.

I am not going to be on the BES, and with the MDA, I get the e-mail via "My-Email" which pushes a trigger and then forwards the e-mail to you. But, it is not real time. I used the 8100 for like an hour during a demo, and the keyboards would have to come in time, but as far as browsing goes, if I am only on the BIS, will I be able to look at the same pages I did on the MDA?

You can get real time e-mail (even on BIS) by forwarding e-mail directly to the BB (which will get a new e-mail address).

I am used to browsing on the BB - so it's probably not fair (and I have BES) for me to compare.

It used to be - but not anymore. I have access to internal web sites, etc.. On T-Mobile you'll have both T-Zones and a BlackBerry Browser...

Sounds like the 8100 might be for me. As long as I can surf pages like ebay, paypal, secure sites, I would be ok.

Also, do I have to pay for ringtones, or can I use my own MP3's?

You can use your own MP3s but you need to send them to yourself as an attachment or use a wap uploader like www.coolservice.dk and now I believe through USB link with the 8100.

With the 8100 (which runs OS 4.2), along with Desktop Manager 4.2 you can copy your own MP3s (and video and pictures) directly from your PC to your BB using the new Media Manager.

And the 8100 also supports a microSD card. I copied a few hours of music over to it today since my iPod is out of town...

eBay works great on the 8100, I'm a powerseller and use it all the time.
