Without a memory card how much memory is comes with the pearl. I am trying to put an mp3 file on there that is 4.7mb and it is telling me that the file is to large. I know that I need to get a 1gig card. Is there anyway to shrink down an mp3

The Pearl comes with 64MB. After loading the OS, applications and data, you probably have 20MB left. I thought I read somewhere (I don't have a link) that there was a limit on the size of MP3s that could be loaded to the device.

The file limit on the phone memory is something like 2.87mb (3 million bytes). On the SD card there's probably no limit (I have 300mb movies on it). Until you get a mem card, you could reencode your music to 56-64kb bitrate or something and they should sound reasonably fine and mostly fit cept the long ones.

how do you install a memory card in there? how much are they? where can one purchase one? I would like to use it as an MP3 player if it can be done

1. You put it in the microSD slot (Read Your Manual)
2. Price depends on size (Anywhere from $25-$75)

Yes it can be done very easily. Remove the back cover and the battery. Then you will see a small slot for a microSD/transflash card. The largest size microSD card readily available to the public at this time is 2GB.

I use the BB8100 as a MP3 player. Is anyone else surprised at the sound performance from the phone's built in speaker? Placing the phone on its back on a hard flat surface with the speaker slot pointed to you produces prety damn good sound for such a tiny little speaker.

Placing the phone on a hard flat surface REALLY improves the sound quality a great deal. Still waiting for my 2.5mm -> 3.5mm minijack adapter so that I can see how this puppy sounds with some proper cans.

I wish the phone integrated with iTunes so that I could more easily shuffle content on and off of the 8100.
