i have tried to set up BB Messsenger without any luck, it says i have to add a contact to the list and when i choose a contact, then select add to messenger, it comes up with a box that says empty and i just can;'t seem to add anyone to the list??

it seems to allow me to add some contacts, regardless if they have a blackberry or not but not others that i know do, seems all very random. anyone shed any light on it for me??

Do all the contacts you were trying to add have email address in the your phone book? If not, it could be the problem.

no they don't. is that the problem, i thought it might be done more like sms than email. sorry for sounding dumb

I think you need at least their email OR phone number.

I know you will need an email address or a PIN for adding contacts. Not sure if a phone # will work for BB Messenger..

Both partys must have Blackberry data service. That being said if you are running the new BB messenger that came with the pearl you need an email address of that person or there PIN number. If you are running and older version you will have to have there blackberry PIN number email address do not work with the older version. simply go to add contact then scroll up in your address book to the top and it should say "use once" thats how you can add aomeone not in your address book. I have found this version (the one on the pearl) to be pretty buggy so if it dos not work the first time try it a few more times...
