pardon me for thinking this is crazy. but my pearl takes a good 7-10 minutes to restart!

certain applications ask you to restart when you remove them. or if something goes wrong and i have to remove the battery. or when i do an OS upgrade. in all cases, the berry takes so long to restart.

why?

i know its basically a mini computer. but i still dont understand why 1-2 minutes isnt enough.

maybe i have a specific problem with mine thats causing this. so i wanted to know how long other people are waiting when they restart or if anyone knows how to reduce the time i have to wait in my case.

im running the latest release from O2

but ive had this problem since before that.

and i cant imagine its the data i have on it.

i have my address book (just under 400 entries)
i have my sms log (i keep all messages but there arent THAT many)

i only have google maps as an add-on application

so i dont know what else it could be. i WISH i could restart in under a min like you

I think the more applications / data / space you take up (eg txt msgs, phone #s etc)- surely the longer the device will take to start up but 7-10 minutes seems excessive

i'd say about 2-3 minutes, dont have much of contacts, but i do have a few added on applications (2 java games, yahoo IM, rambler, opera)

Like I said. I hardly have anything on mine. So data can't be a factor. Before I go ahead and do this, you think a complete wipe might fix the problem?

just installed a new program via bb desktop manager and it obviously forced a restart of the device. i JUST hit 12 minutes and it JUST finished restarting.

im going a full wipe. this is rediculous

with or without signal i dont care. im just talking about the time necessary for it to shutdown (almost instant if done via a prompt when removing an app for example, or instant if u remove the battery) and then boot back up to the home screen. as in the hourglass on the white screen has finished and you're at the home screen and can actually use ur device.

this is driving me nuts! i cant afford to have to restart for 12 min. especially if in the middle of a work day, thats a lot of lost productivity time when you depend on ur phone!

I noticed that ever since i changed my theme to the phantom my load time is horrible. Most often it takes longer than 5 minutes so I just end up taking off the battery and turning it back on.

It can range from 1-5 minutes the more data on your BB the slower it will be also OS plays a big factor.. Also content compression and encryption slow it down. After it reboots check your logs hold down ALT and press L>G>L>G and see if one of your apps is causing it to hang or something I know mine hangs because of the file explorer app sometimes and Opera sometimes causes it to hang.. Your logs will tell you everything you need to know. In the options for the log set the type of information you want to "warning"
you have 3 choices >warning>information>debug info pick warning
Also I think your talking about a hard reset after pulling the battery not just using the power button to powerd down the phone since that way it should only take about 30 seconds to start up..

~13 seconds to shut down
~10 seconds to turn on, connect to T-Mobile and receive a signal

i believe this is just by holding the power button down correct? NOT with pulling the battery out... Try pulling the battery since thats a real hard reset and time how long it takes your BB to come back online then should be arounf 45 seconds - 90 seconds

ok. i did a full data wipe. at the end it does a restart and it took about a min, give or take 30 sec.

now im gonna restore the data. see if thats what made a difference

good amount of data on it as well...
bu file is about 7mgs..

my old 7100 g and 7100t use to take 10-15 min! same amount of data as the 8100...

Pulled battery restart on mine is definitely 3 to 5 minutes.

does no one see this as a problem? what if ur in a situation where you have to restart and get back into your berry asap? as a business device, 3/5/7/whatever number of minutes downtime seems unacceptable to me.

i dont see whats so complex about blackberry OS that makes it boot up so much slower than other PDAs that have even more functionality. and knowing that it has a pretty powerful intel processor under the hood makes me wonder even more...

something has to wrong in the OS design to create this much of a delay
