Default synchronize data using usb

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone. If I develop an application which data is locally stored using PersistentStore, is it possible to send it to a desktop computer via usb? I mean, the same way you develop conduits for Palm, or use ActiveSync to synchronize data, I'd like to use Desktop Manager to send some of the data to the PC.

The aim could be, e.g., enable users to write reports on hard disk of the PC with the information stored on the device.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

I haven't actually done any work on a device yet, but I'll assume what I've done on the simulator is applicable.

if you just need to transfer the data to desktop, then yes, you can use a USB cable to do it. The Backing up and restoring persistent data section in the BlackBerry Application Developer Guide Vol.2 helped me a lot when I was writing my app.

The problem is that the transferred data is in a .ipd file, which isn't easily readable. I was able to get around this by formatting the output I sent to the persistent store, then writing a parser to retrieve it from the .ipd file. I think I've also seen on this forum some mention of a 3rd-party app which reads .ipd files.

I'm pretty new to handheld development, so there's not much else I can think of. Hope it helps

Thanks. I'll take a look at that section in the developer's guide.

Any way, despite the Desktop Manager's backup and restoring abilities, it would be nice to have a way to use USB to open a TCP connection to the host, where a resident application should be waiting for connections and generating PDF files (for example) as reports of the data introduced by users.

Thanks again and see you!
