Wirelessly posted (Thumpers 8700c: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)
There isn't a 4.2 OS for the 8700c (Cingular). You must either have 4.2 for the 8100, or you have the latest release (4.1) for the 8700. Either way, I would only change the OS for a major functionality upgrade. Usually this is done to get something like Zen, however, on the 8703e you can get Zen OTA, so what would be the point of an upgrade?

Or, there is a 4.2 for the 8700. It is being tested now by some carriers and is NOT widely available.

Have it your way.
How do you know it's not a beta?
Has any carrier released it?
No? Then it is still a beta.
Tell me the version number please.

Very good - you have some new, unreleased stuff.
And when a carrier releases it, it will not be beta anymore...

Great! When Cingular releases it, it will be available for the 8700c and 8700g.
Amazing - took them a year to release an update to the original 8700 code and now they have 4.2.2 floating around.

You can try.
Install the new code onto your PC.
Find the location where both the 8703 and 8700 code is installed.
Copy the Java folder from the 8700 to the 8703
Start Desktop Manager
Make sure you have a good backup and a copy of JL_CMDER ready.
I wouldn't do this.
